SKILLS MAPPING

A simple process with potentially huge benefits:

Businesses will be able to:

• benchmark workforce skills against agreed standards
• identify skills gaps and opportunities for performance improvement
• increase business confidence ensuring fit-for-purpose training

Benefits of Skills Mapping:

• employees’ skills benchmarked to industry or company standards
• performance improvements through effective management of people
• aligns training needs with business goals
• highlights priority areas and ensures learning is targeted
• ensures training of limited value or quality is avoided
• means financial investment is allocated more effectively
• provides a clear demonstration of organisational competence

The Skills Mapping process

1. Training needs assessment

We advise and agree with the company, the benchmark to measure staff efficiency, which maps across the job profiles. The company can then utilise our easy to use scoring forms to interview and assess staff against the benchmark and prioritise any needs against identified weaknesses. The Skills Coach can provide an external perspective to this process if required. This can then be transposed into a companywide training matrix, which will show skills gap, potential problem areas and possible in house solutions. The identified training requirements for the company and the individuals are measured in four key areas of competence:

  • Technical Competence (How to do the job)
  • Continuous Improvement (Able to identify possible improvements)
  • Compliance (Health and Safety, can do it legally and safely)
  • Softer skills (Leadership & Management, Team Working etc)

2. Gap analysis

This provides the basis for an objective, personalised and cost-effective development plan, which will help you get the best return from the investment you make in your staff. Crucially, this analysis helps companies to prioritise their training needs – so that urgent skills gaps are tackled and the company wide training plan support the company business plan.

3. Training solution

Once the needs and priorities are identified the solutions may be developed. This would be a tailored approach to fit with the business requirements, ensuing fit for purpose provision, delivered as and when required by you.

4. Quality provision

Focus Management for Business is a quality provider with the flexibilities to ensure successful delivery as required. Employers will be asked to identify at least 5 key outcomes to be achieved from the programmes and this will be monitored and assessed on completion to ensure the business aims and objectives are met.

5. Recording and Review

The record of training can be annotated on the individual and/or company wide training plans as a record of staff competence. This can then be utilised as the platform to monitor and strengthen the skills sets of staff and provide competency management.
